Compensation: The starting annual base salary range for this position is $62,000-$78,000.

Position Summary and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Dining Services, the Assistant Director of Dining Services - Retreat Operations provides direct, day-to-day operational, administrative oversight, and culinary management for the Retreat and The Express serving approximately 1,800-2,000 meals per day. This position is a member of a management team expected to develop a successful plan for meeting or exceeding student expectations of an on-campus food service. Vassar College, in partnership with Bon Appetit, focuses on local and sustainable ingredients, healthy food options and cooking from scratch.
Responsibilities
  • Work in partnership with Bon Appetit on food procurement, inventory, menus, special events and culinary promotions.
  • Works with Dining Services leadership to strategically plan for fiscally sound operations, excellent customer service centered around students, and effective staff development.
  • Provide supervision, leadership, and training to the 20 hourly food service staff including, but not limited to coaching, training, and accountability, as appropriate.
  • Directly responsible for quality improvement, sanitation, safety measures and all kitchen-related activities including adherence to food-allergy guidelines.
  • Oversee daily operations regarding service, execution, and quality of food and recommend and implement efficiencies.
  • Availability and flexibility to work evening and weekend hours year-round to support campus dining.


Qualifications
Required
  • Three years of demonstrated culinary management experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have the ability to work with others and to take and give direction.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using technology to support operations including budgetary functions and accounting.


Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working with unionized staff.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Experience in higher education or high-volume food service setting.
