Job Summary

Prepares financial management reports; Participates in month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting book closing duties; Conducts special accounting and finance projects; Provides financial analysis and financial forecasting to all levels of management.

Responsibilities

1. Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports.

2. Analyzes financial documents, statistical data, historical data and presents to and interprets for management.

3. Significant efforts in preparation and analysis of financial data, and reporting of financial operational information to various stakeholders across the organization.

4. Participates in the establishment and maintenance of accounting processes.

5. Audits accounting information, reconciles data, and resolves problems or recommends solutions when appropriate.

6. Analyzes trends and possible outcomes.

7. Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting processes and departmental operations.

8. Designs forms, tables, graphs and charts for summarizing financial information.

9. Assists with the month-end financial management process, including but not limited to journal entry processing, reconciliations and reporting.

10. May prepare and monitor departmental budgets.

11. May provide training on financial issues or procedures or provide guidance to more junior staff.

Problem Solving

The Financial Analyst has the authority to independently determine the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results, including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, format and report structure.

Representative challenges of this position include organizing and prioritizing multiple projects, determining the best course of action or appropriate resources needed to complete a project or address a problem, obtaining valid data and creating clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought.

The Financial Analyst must correctly interpret regulations to ensure the Department & the University are in compliance with Federal, State and other requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices; spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required.

An advanced degree, such as a Master's of Business Administration, is preferred. Certain positions may require familiarity with hospital billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field and an advanced degree, such as a Master's of Business Administration is preferred.
