Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is seeking an Outreach Coordinator to oversee offsite education programs including Garden on the Grow, our 1st-grade state-wide science outreach program. Responsibilities include scheduling, facilitating, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating the Garden on the Grow class visits, co-managing and training department staff and volunteers, maintaining and building community partnerships, collecting and organizing program data, and communicating with schools, districts, and teachers, budgeting, purchasing, manufacturing, organizing, and maintaining materials, development and coordination of pre and post-visit activities, and assisting in the development and delivery of other school programs.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Garden on the Grow program, other offsite teacher and student experiences, and associated materials and lessons
  • Teach Garden on the Grow lessons to 1st grade classes
  • Assist in the daily operations of all aspects of offsite programming, including Garden on the Grow, by maintaining supplies, facilities, and equipment
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for offsite programs, including hundreds of class visits throughout the state each school year
  • Gather, compile, analyze, and use program evaluation data
  • Build and maintain community partnerships for offsite programs
  • Determine budgeting and purchasing needs for offsite programs
  • Develop, edit, pilot, and maintain curriculum with a focus on Utah's SEEd standards 3-dimensional science teaching
  • Train other School Programs team members on Garden on the Grow curriculum, pedagogy, teaching methods, and program procedures
  • Plan outreach visit schedules and travel schedules and communicate to School Programs team members, including lodging for travel
  • Travel to locations statewide to deliver programming, including overnight travel
  • Assist in the creation and facilitation of school programs master plan to increase student reach throughout the state
  • Assist other School Programs team members in the delivery of professional development workshops for K-12 teachers and field trips to the Garden
  • Assist School Programs team with new curriculum and program development
  • Assist in the development and delivery of all School Programs programming
  • Provide assistance to other departments with special events throughout the year

Minimum Qualifications

Six years related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Bachelor's degree in a related area is preferred.

As this position would use university vehicles to travel, the incumbent must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver's license per U of U policy.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver science curriculum and other teacher resources
  • Experience working with K-12 students, especially early elementary school students

  • Ability to travel to urban and rural locations across the state in single or multi-day trips
  • Ability to lift and move over 50 pounds regularly
  • Able to work safely in a variety of weather conditions, including full sun, heat, cold, precipitation, etc.
  • Some proficiency in Spanish or other languages helpful
  • Ability to drive state vehicle, including trucks and minivans, as some driving is required
