The Department of Pediatrics at the Dell Medical School (DMS) at The University of Texas at Austin, along with its clinical partner Dell Children's Medical Center, a part of the Ascension Seton Healthcare Family, is seeking an Assistant Chair of Advocacy. In partnership with clinical, educational and research leaders in the Department of Pediatrics and at Dell Children's Medical Center, the Assistant Chair of Advocacy will develop and foster a vision for the Advocacy Division for the years to come. This will be a 0.2 FTE position, equivalent to approximately 8 hours per week.
DMS, the first new medical school to be built at a tier one research university in nearly 50 years, welcomed its inaugural class in 2016. Responsibilities:
In partnership with the Associate Chair of Advocacy will:
- Develop and amintain mutually beneficial institutional and personal relationships with our community partners as it relates to advocacy, the clinical and learning environments, research and innovation and policy and legislative changes.
- Work with the Advocacy Committee Leadership to design, implement, coordinate and lead a comprehensive Advocacy program to increase high-quality advocacy research with the Department of Pediatrics at UT/Dell Medical School.
- Identify and advance key strategic priorities for the further development of advocacy and research to the Department of Pediatrics.
- Assist members of the Department of Pediatrics to seek, obtain, administer, and manage external funding to support advocacy care, educational and research projects that fits within the overall infrastructure and program.
- Identify current and potential future care, educational, and research activities in Austin that push the dial for pediatric advocacy.
- Advocacy program development and implementation with a particular emphasis on pediatrics;
- Provide or help coordinate appropriate faculty supervision for pediatric trainees performing clinical rotations, with a focus on creating sustainable models for advocacy in all its definition.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to pediatric faculty, residents, and students in scholarship, teaching and service as it relates to their engagement in the Advocacy program.
Qualifications
- The successful candidate will demonstrate sustained excellence or the potential for sustained excellence in research productivity, clinical care, and/or mentorship/training of trainees and junior faculty.
- MD/DO from an accredited program.
- Current board certification in Pediatrics.
- Demonstrable experience in collaborative relationships with strong education partners, and especially in engaging those educators nationally.
- Demonstrable experience in collaborative problem-solving with academic colleagues in clinical and educational spheres.
- Must be eligible to hold a faculty appointment with the Department of Pediatrics at the Dell Medical School.
