Assistant Professor of Early Modern Poetry

The English Department of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications from scholars working at the intersection of early modern poetry and philosophy. Related research fields might include (but are not limited to) classical studies, political economy, care ethics, histories of race, gender, and sexuality, and environmental studies. Highly desirable candidates will offer evidence of and/or proposals for innovative undergraduate teaching, have the ability to teach Spenser, Cavendish, and Milton, and plan to contribute substantially to our focal area for graduate student research, “Genealogies of Modernity.”

The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenure-stream Assistant Professor to start in the fall semester of 2024. Candidates must have the Ph.D. in English or a related field by the start of the appointment. The normal teaching load is 2/2. The University of Pittsburgh offers many opportunities for collaborative research as well as internal fellowships and grants from entities such as the Humanities Center and the interdisciplinary Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program. We are members of the Newberry Library’s Renaissance Studies Consortium, which has reciprocal privileges with the Folger Institute.

Teaching Load: 2/2 plus committee or supervisory assignment
