Chancellor and Dean of Penn State Harrisburg

The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) seeks a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking leader as its next Chancellor and Dean of Penn State Harrisburg. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses and Executive Chancellor, Penn State Harrisburg's chancellor and dean serves as the chief executive officer of this student-centered, regional comprehensive institution with responsibility for the quality of academic programs in teaching, research, and service, including the promotion and tenure process; strategic planning; budgeting; philanthropy; faculty and staff development; outreach and alumni; and community and corporate relations. The position requires an individual who can independently provide strategic leadership and management to the Penn State Harrisburg campus while operating as an integral part of the broader Penn State community, working collaboratively with the other chancellors, administrative leadership, and units including the ongoing cultivation of key partnerships including Penn State Global, the Graduate School, and Penn State World Campus. The chancellor is a key executive of the University and serves as a member of the Academic Leadership Council, the Council of Campus Chancellors, and the Advisory Committee for Graduate Education.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and student-centered academic leader with an entrepreneurial outlook who is able to take charge of an effective and thriving campus and serve as a steward of Penn State in the Harrisburg region. A minimum of five years of experience in higher education academic administration at a comprehensive institution is required along with responsibility for strategic oversight of personnel, planning, programs, communication, and resources. Candidates should possess a terminal degree and have a teaching and research record with academic credentials commensurate for an appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. The successful candidate will have a commitment to high-quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary education, as well as to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Qualified candidates should demonstrate the experience, aptitude, and willingness to lead significant corporate relations and fundraising efforts.

Penn State Harrisburg is located on a 218-acre suburban campus in Middletown, eight miles east of the city of Harrisburg. New facilities have enhanced academic and student life including newly built Student Enrichment Center, new Educational Activities Building, an expansion of the Science and Technology Building, a state-of-the-art library, student housing, food court, and Town Square for student activities, indoor aquatics center, tennis complex, and several other sports facilities. Proximity to the capital city provides opportunities for internships, research fellowships, service-learning, and cultural experiences as well as engagement in state government. Penn State Harrisburg is an undergraduate college and graduate school of Penn State, the land-grant University of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania serving over 95,000 students. The College enrolls more than 5,000 students in residential instruction and an additional 1,000 students on the World Campus. The College offers two associate, 35 baccalaureate, 25 Master's, and three doctoral degrees. The College also offers the first two years of study leading to more than 160 baccalaureate majors available throughout Penn State. Additionally, the campus participates in nine online degree offerings (six graduate and three undergraduate) through Penn State World Campus and offers four joint degrees in collaboration with Penn State's Dickinson School of Law and College of Medicine. The College is organized into five academic schools: Behavioral Sciences and Education; Business Administration; Humanities; Public Affairs; and Science, Engineering, and Technology. Respective professional programs are accredited by AACSB, ABET, NASPAA, and NCATE. Criminal justice (B.S.) is certified by ACJS. The College is home to several research centers and institutes that serve the South-Central Pennsylvania region of the Commonwealth and have substantial sponsorship and industry partners. There are 10 academic administrators, 241 full-time and 229 part-time faculty, and 190 full-time staff, 485 part-time staff, and 53 staff within tech services.
