Job Description

Perform manual, semi-skilled duties relating to maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and general laboring. Work is subject to spot checking for appearance and conformance with instructions and acceptable standards of workmanship. Functional contacts include co-workers, service department employees, and occasionally administrative staff at the job location, with casual contact with other university staff and students.
  • Perform rough construction work such as set forms, pour and finish concrete, set bricks, spread asphalt and other black-top material, carry and set concrete blocks, lay drainage tile. Dig ditches, break out old concrete and masonry, and help prepare ground for foundations.
  • In accordance with specific instructions from skilled tradesman or supervisor, measure and lay out work, carry materials and supplies, set up scaffolding and ladders, and perform semi-skilled work.
  • Operate hand and power tools, and mechanical equipment as required. Clean, oil and make minor repairs to tools and equipment.
  • Move, assemble and deliver furniture. Move, transport and assist in the installation of heavy equipment, electrical transformers, hot water heaters, air conditioners, food supplies, materials and various other items.
  • May drive any vehicle or equipment incidental to performance of duties.
  • May work on special tasks including: erect and dismantle portable bleachers, install temporary fixtures, route markers; cleanup stadium, field house, or other large area after special events, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift

8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday
Mid-May to Mid-August

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to read and write
  • Ability to comprehend and apply specific oral and written instructions
  • One year experience in general construction or maintenance work
  • General mechanical ability including operation of basic tools and equipment at a semi-skilled level
  • Mechanical aptitude, above average strength and physical coordination
  • Ability on a daily basis to grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy objects (50-75 lbs.)
  • A valid driver's license may be required
  • Depending on the nature of work performed, the incumbent may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the “Industrial Standard for Respirator Use”
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $14.50-$15.21 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
