The Tennessean, located in Nashville and the state's largest news organization, is seeking a standout journalist with at least a few years of reporting experience to fill a key role on its core news team. The right person will be passionate about serving the community, eager to collaborate with colleagues, and ambitious in their reporting and storytelling.
The beat is justice and equity. Newsrooms traditionally have covered justice by focusing on the legal system, which narrows the lens and inevitably revolves around institutions. We aim to go beyond that definition to tell meaningful stories, focused on solutions, about how communities collectively address the past, deal with the present and plan for the future. While this beat entails some coverage of criminal and civil courts, it also encompasses broader social justice issues such as discrimination, and access to housing, health care and government services. This reporter will tell stories based in Nashville, Middle Tennessee and across the state, in collaboration with other Gannett journalists.
