Job Summary

Assists the Associate Director for Campus Life with supporting the programmatic needs of the department. Provides direct advising and organizational support for FIU's Homecoming Council. Coordinates and supports programmatic and event support at Modesto Maidique (MMC), Biscayne Bay (BBC), Engineering (EC), and FIU @ I-75 campuses as appropriate. Assists student leaders in the development and presentation of an annual budget request; attends regular meetings, events, and retreats. Assists with Campus Life departmental events and provides administrative and operational support including marketing through social media.
  • Serves as the primary advisor for the Homecoming Council. Develops goals and objectives to support the agency as it pertains to programs, budget, and services.
  • Oversees the programmatic efforts of the Homecoming Council in event planning and logistics, especially at the MMC campus, and provides operational support for events taking place at any of the following campus locations BBC, EC, FIU @ I-75.
  • Assists Associate Director in development of A&S programming budget requests as needed.
  • Negotiates and initiates contracts for performers, etc. for programs sponsored or supported by the Homecoming Council and/or Campus Life and other student-led agencies/bureaus as needed.
  • Assists with Campus Life major programs and events, including communication and coordination of logistical matters with vendors, assistance with risk management issues, and supporting/advising student and/or professional staff as needed.
  • Trains and supervises graduate assistants, practicum students, interns, and/or temporary program assistants.
  • Supports the Panther Power spirit and tradition agency and its advisor in programmatic and operational efforts and serves as interim advisor to the agency in the absence of the Campus Life Coordinator.
  • Evaluates programs and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Assists student groups in purchasing event supplies from on- and off-campus vendors. This includes use of the university commodity card for purchases online and in retail outlets on behalf of, and with, students.
  • Will have access to a third-party system (software, gateway, etc.) that processes, transmits, and/or stores cardholder information.
  • Attends appropriate national or local conferences and/or other professional development programs to stay abreast of best practices
  • Represents the University on various internal and external committees and/or associations. Attends regular student leadership meetings/retreats, and departmental staff meetings. Serves on University-wide or Divisional, or other campus Committees as assigned and approved by the Director of Campus Life.

  • Interprets and communicates policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, local, University, and Campus Life policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of office or related experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Masters degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Prior experience with event planning and execution.
