Under the direction of a unit supervisor, responds to emergency medical calls; uses specialized medical protocols, equipment, and supplies to provide on-scene medical intervention to preserve life until the patient is transported and transferred to medical facilities and physician care. Responds to emergency fire and first aid calls; uses specialized equipment and tools to save lives, protect property, suppress and extinguish fires, and perform emergency first aid and rescue operations; maintains continual availability and readiness of facilities, apparatus, equipment, and supplies; performs non-emergency services including inspections, investigations, equipment testing, recordkeeping, and other standard fire station routines; maintains and upgrades personal skills and knowledge through internal and external instruction and training programs. 

Candidates must:
  1. Be at least 20 and 1/2 years of age but less than 35 years of age* by the date of the written examination. No person shall be hired as a Firefighter who has not arrived at the age of 21. Any applicant who arrives at the age of 35* during the selection process shall be immediately disqualified and will not be eligible to receive an offer of employment. *Exception for Maximum Age: Any person who has at least two (2) years of previous experience as a paid firefighter with another fire department and whose years of experience as a paid firefighter when subtracted from the person’s age leaves a remainder of not more than thirty-two (32) years shall be eligible; A current or former service member of the regular or reserve component of the uniformed services of the United States as defined under 10 U.S.C. § 101 who is within three (3) years of separation or retirement from the regular or reserve component of the uniformed services of the United States.
  2. Have graduated from a standard high school or have a high school equivalency certificate, i.e., General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
  3. Have no felony convictions.
  4. Be a United States citizen by the date of hire.
  5. Be in good physical condition.
  6. Be of good moral character.
  7. Obtain or hold a valid, unrestricted Arkansas Class D Driver’s License by the date of hire; and a good driving record.
  8. Complete all required selection processes including a medical examination, drug screen, and a physical abilities test.
