Summary:
The Curriculum Office at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) School of Medicine (SOM) Temple Regional Campus is seeking two foundational sciences faculty members with expertise in the following disciplines:
- Biochemistry, Physiology, and/or Pharmacology
- Histology and/or Pathology
These faculty positions are open rank and dependent on qualifications and experience.
Commencing with AY2023-2024, the BCMSOM will expand to Temple, Texas, in partnership with Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). BSWH is prepared to support the program with its expansive clinical enterprise with a focus on value-based care that features a 640-bed teaching and research hospital with a Level I trauma center. The campus also has established GME programs which have been training residents and fellows for over 100 years. There are more than 40 residency and fellowship programs accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, training nearly 500 active GME residents and fellows.
Job Duties:
- Generate and distribute curriculum materials in a timely manner.
- Develop and deliver content to learners through active learning methodologies.
- Work collaboratively with faculty from other basic science/clinical science departments in curricular transformation.
- Work with Evaluation, Assessment, and Medical Education Research team to develop and implement various assessment tools to assess medical students, including but not limited to NBME-style multiple-choice questions, and narrative assessments.
- Participate in faculty development programs to enhance teaching and educational skills.
- Facilitate small group active learning sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.D., or other equivalent terminal degree.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in medical education, including curriculum development and delivery in the basic sciences.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in leadership and ability to work with a group of educators and stakeholders.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead and work on a team.
- Develop or promptly acquire a working knowledge of national, college, and department-specific curricular goals in each discipline receiving instruction.
- Commitment to meet and maintain faculty development requirements in clinical supervision, classroom instruction, and formative/summative evaluation.
- Committee assignments and other faculty duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years teaching undergraduate medical students using active learning methodologies.
